>> Problems with Seagate not with Amazon s packaging
While I must admit that I ve had loads of problems with this particular model of Seagate drive 4 DOAs from another vendor and one that died after about 3 months of use I must say that Amazon appears to have listened to complaints about packaging of OEM drives Mine arrived in it s static bag and

This HD was used to upgrade my OEM 80 GB PS3 Hard Drive The installation process was quite simple and the PS3 unit performs much better with this Hard Drive than it did with the OEM 80 GB Seagate

The PS3 unit now runs much quiter which also means that it runs much cooler as the only

AMD Phenom II X4 955 HDZ955FBGIBOX 3 2 GHz/6 MB L3/125W Processor
>> Best CPU for Average User
Yes I mean it It s the best CPU for average user/gamer at this moment You can pay more for Core i7 but you won t get more Trust me It s like buying a Ferrari but driving a highway with speed limit of 70mph Most of the application I use load my Phenom II x4 955 BE at average 25 30 When gaming I use around 65 70 no more and I max out everything And it s all at stock speeds 3 2 Ghz I never seen my CPU 100 except when I used the Torture Test with Prime 95 What s the point of buying the fastest CPU where most of the applications don t even use all of its power well you can say that it s somewhat future proof but trust me it would be outdated with new CPUs with more power and more Cores in just 1 2 years Even the fastest dual core CPU s can t match the power of Quads Meaning that if someone bought the Fastest CPU with 2 cores at the time they were released and paid insane amount of for it and they were outdated by 4 core CPUs in about a year Same here It s better to buy now Phenom II x4 955 BE for less and upgrade it later for faster CPU and having a better CPU in the future instead of buying Core i7 for more and using an outdated CPU And by the way Intel is just a rip off for their customers where you have to buy new motherboard and new components every time they release new CPU but with AMD you still can use AM3 in the future If you are looking for the best value/price CPU look no further Buy it You won t regret it Need more Power You can overclock it up to 3 6ghz with stock fan and up to 4 0ghz with water cooling or high end air cooler maybe more I m waiting on Corsair h50 water cooler and going to overclock it to 3 9ghz and this BEAST is going to eat most of my applications alive LOL If you have a lot of and don t know where to spend it you can go ahead and waste your money on Core i7 or just send it to me D but if you are smart enough you can buy Phenom II x4 955 BE and save your for better GPU or whatever you need and upgrade CPU next year to new AMD Bulldozer CPU which will mop the floor with Core i7 and still you will save Nowadays you can t really be future proof and buying fastest CPU makes no sense because the way it s going right now technologies develop too fast It could be true 5 6 years ago where you could buy a CPU and boast about it but now progress is going to be even faster Next year AMD realeasing 6 core CPU and 2 3 years from now there would be 8 12 core CPU s even the fastest Core i7 which costs around 1300 would be no match for them Just think about it
>> Speed demon
I bought this at the beginning of the year and I can t fault it so ended up giving many stars

4 cores
8MB cache 2MB L2 and 6 MB L3 cache
Virtualization
Cool power management

I bought it as an upgrade to the core 2d 8400 and I m very satisfied with its performance Where the core 2d seemed hesitant to perform some tasks esp involving multitasking the Phenom blazes through without pause so yeah 4 cores good 2 cores bad heh heh The extra two cores are more noticeably effective when for instance I am compiling a linux kernel and watching a movie online at the same time this being typical usage that the C2d 8400 used to wheeze and pant through

For me this is the processor of the moment considering the state of existing computer hardware and software Currently most existing software is not designed to take advantage of multiple cores so if you are to balance future proofing versus performance versus price you would be a bit foolhardy to choose a core 2 quad over this without a second thought because performance is basically the same but you have the additional benefit of upgradability depending on your motherboard of choice where obviously DDR3 chipsets and boards are preferable when AMD release their upcoming 6core cpus As far as I have read the upcoming cpus with only a probable bios upgrade will be compatible with quite a few of the current existing chipsets and motherboards

Overclockers be happy 600 mhz happy about the Phenoms overclockability this is a black edition unlocked mulitplier cpu but since overclocking is not my main focus in computing I can only point out that the Phenom is designed for 1333 FSB so most higher rated RAM modules will be detected at that speed It is for you to play around with your BIOS settings to achieve your overclock or set RAM speed/timings I have not experimented much with overclocking but the few times I did I found it very easy

Amazon seem to have only the C2 stepping ie AMD Phenom II X4 955 HDZ955FBGIBOX but AMD released an updated C3 stepping AMD Phenom II X4 955 HDZ955FBGMBOX still 125w which supposedly reaches higher overclocks than its older sibling

My current setup

AMD Phenom II 955 HDZ955FBGIBOX
Asus M4A79XTD EVO mb
Kingston HyperX 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 KHX1600C8D3K2/4GX
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI
4 SATA HDD
2 DVD RW drives
Xigmatek HDT S963 cpu cooler not really rated for a 125w cpu needs upgrade
Sapphire Radeon 1GB HD5750

One thing I have to say about Amazon and UPS is that their handling/shipping is not shoddy or slow kudos to DHL who courier the stuff to me
Except for the HDD and DVD drives all the above listed were Amazon purchases and all have survived a loooong journey intact
>> Excellent CPU reasonable price
Reviews on here and on Newegg don t lie this is a fast and powerful quad core PC For my general use which includes like many people some decent gaming high speed internet videos dvd s and basic apps this thing beats the tar out of any dual core processor I ve ever seen or used I m not overclocking because I have no reason to but it can be easily done from everything that I ve read and reviewed If I had a ton of money and was an extreme gamer perhaps I would have gone with the pricey Intel i7 But so far I have trouble seeing how this processor is worse than the i7 and I would challenge anyone who s not an extreme gamer to explain it to me This is worth the money I am very happy with this purchase on my new PC build It will be fast for years to come
