About the drive When it s working it s a good drive It s pretty quiet and the price for the capacity is still pretty good Given the checkered reliability record I recommend having a spare drive on hand for any NAS/RAID array that you may be sticking these into Seagate is good about the RMA process you still have to pay to ship the dead drive to them but they pay the return shipping in general but to be without the drive for a week or more can be dicey in a RAID array

You can choose to install your PSU either above or below the motherboard I went with below for greater stability
The large diameter fans spin at a lower speed giving you lots of great airflow for relatively little noise The fans come with molex adapters in case your motherboard doesn t have four sockets for case fans
The case itself is tool less and all drives can be mounted in a tool less fashion but if you prefer you can screw the drives in the traditional way should vibration be a concern Personally I ve had no issues with the tool less option for all my drives Even your PCI expansion cards e g video card can be installed in either a tool less fashion or with screws Getting in and out of this case is incredibly easy The same goes for swapping parts in and out once you re inside the case This case is a pleasure to work on
The cable management in this thing is a dream Typically the inside of my rigs look like a spaghetti factory exploded but even I was able to make the inside of my rig look pristine a good thing given the transparent side of the case Despite routing cables behind the motherboard somehow all the cables I had reached everything they needed to just fine Not only does this make your computer look nicer but it helps to improve airflow as if having four giant fans weren t enough
The front panel has every kind of connector imaginable including eSATA and are positioned at the top making them easier to get to if you put your computer on the floor like many people do
Oh and the interior of this thing is roomy You ll have no problem fitting the biggest of video cards and still have room left over for a four year old to move in and build her own dollhouse
My only real gripe with this thing is that the power and HD activity LEDs are awfully bright but this is only an issue if you have your computer in your bedroom and leave your computer on at night I guess they figure you need the bright lights to warn low flying aircraft as it is an awfully big case

I am using 1 fan in my home theater cabinet to cool my ps3 The ps3 sits in the middle of the cabinet underneath the center channel speaker this door is vented with a cloth grill because of the center channel Even so with the door closed after a bit you will hear the ps3 fans kick in overdrive Not anymore
I have the Mobile Fan 12 mounted near the front right side of the ps3 and the ps3 fans kick on but never higher than medium speed Even at full blast the Fan 12 is very hard to hear

I put a ASUS P6TD Deluxe in this case with a Thermalright heat sink without any clearance problems Even the largest graphic cards fit in this case The drive bays are tool less and abundant The case pushes a lot of air which was a major part of the choice I m using some pretty hot components and I didn t want to got the water cooled route The finish is very nice inside and out and there are no sharp edges to damage wires or fingers
The case is very easy to do wire management with lots of room behind the motherboard and several penetrations to route your cables from front to back A few more wire mount points might be nice but there are enough I like the bottom mounts for the power supply keeps the weight low and makes for easy routing of power lines
The case looks very nice on the outside with a satin black finish Some modders like to paint the inside but I think the aluminum inside looks good it also has a satin finish
The case comes with top back and front fans you can add a bottom or side fan to get even more flow There are provisions to water cool this case including holes for radiator mounts and two holes in the back with rubber grommets for tubing

I bought it as an upgrade to the core 2d 8400 and I m very satisfied with its performance Where the core 2d seemed hesitant to perform some tasks esp involving multitasking the Phenom blazes through without pause so yeah 4 cores good 2 cores bad heh heh The extra two cores are more noticeably effective when for instance I am compiling a linux kernel and watching a movie online at the same time this being typical usage that the C2d 8400 used to wheeze and pant through
For me this is the processor of the moment considering the state of existing computer hardware and software Currently most existing software is not designed to take advantage of multiple cores so if you are to balance future proofing versus performance versus price you would be a bit foolhardy to choose a core 2 quad over this without a second thought because performance is basically the same but you have the additional benefit of upgradability depending on your motherboard of choice where obviously DDR3 chipsets and boards are preferable when AMD release their upcoming 6core cpus As far as I have read the upcoming cpus with only a probable bios upgrade will be compatible with quite a few of the current existing chipsets and motherboards
Overclockers be happy 600 mhz happy about the Phenoms overclockability this is a black edition unlocked mulitplier cpu but since overclocking is not my main focus in computing I can only point out that the Phenom is designed for 1333 FSB so most higher rated RAM modules will be detected at that speed It is for you to play around with your BIOS settings to achieve your overclock or set RAM speed/timings I have not experimented much with overclocking but the few times I did I found it very easy
Amazon seem to have only the C2 stepping ie AMD Phenom II X4 955 HDZ955FBGIBOX but AMD released an updated C3 stepping AMD Phenom II X4 955 HDZ955FBGMBOX still 125w which supposedly reaches higher overclocks than its older sibling

One thing I have to say about Amazon and UPS is that their handling/shipping is not shoddy or slow kudos to DHL who courier the stuff to me Except for the HDD and DVD drives all the above listed were Amazon purchases and all have survived a loooong journey intact >> Excellent CPU reasonable price Reviews on here and on Newegg don t lie this is a fast and powerful quad core PC For my general use which includes like many people some decent gaming high speed internet videos dvd s and basic apps this thing beats the tar out of any dual core processor I ve ever seen or used I m not overclocking because I have no reason to but it can be easily done from everything that I ve read and reviewed If I had a ton of money and was an extreme gamer perhaps I would have gone with the pricey Intel i7 But so far I have trouble seeing how this processor is worse than the i7 and I would challenge anyone who s not an extreme gamer to explain it to me This is worth the money I am very happy with this purchase on my new PC build It will be fast for years to come

The fan lights look nice red in front and back There is a switch in the front top of the case that allows the user to turn off the fan lights The on off switch is very conveniently located and the four USB ports in the front top are great as is the e sata port The bottom mounted power supply is in my opinion a plus Another plus is that the entire case is black and the metal is finished to minimize any sharp edges
The big fans are quiet and if you are so moved there is the option of adding two 80mm fans to the clear side panel but for most users the three fans 2 140mm and 1 120mm should be more than adequate especially since one of the 140 mm fans is on top The top handle makes moving the case a breeze I would definitely consider this case for any future builds It looks good works good and keeps my rig cool

It runs nfs shift COD 5 COD 6 at 1920x1080 with AA 2x on and full effects with no choking and before overclocking The stock clock is 850mhz and the included ATI control center utility tests the highest stable speed for you I think mines went up to 925 mhz but I still have it on 850 since I am not seeing a difference at the higher clock The utility also gives you manual control of the gpu fan The reported temp reaches 70 degrees celcius while gaming with the fan on auto so when I remember I put the fan to about 70 At that speed I can hear it running and it does not get that loud on auto I made a profile in the utility with the higher fan speed and switch to it when gaming I do not think the shape of the plastic cover would help with the heat dissipation I have a 120mm fan on the back of my case and a 120mm in the power supply and there is a vent on the side door next to the video card also so air flow is not a problem In fact the temp is the same with or without the side door on
I had a problem of the screen showing black but the lcd staying on when the lcd was supposed to go to sleep when you leave the pc alone That was using catalyst 10 1 drivers and it was fixed with 10 2

There is a white 10 pin connector at the top corner of the card which is an an audio connector for the front headphone and microphone jacks on Dell computers While there is pin out info on the web you will have trouble getting individual connector plugs to stay on the thin pins There is info on the web about purchasing the Dell connector plug and joining it to their front panel connector via a home made interface cable or connecting the wires directly to the plug

I put a Q9550 in this board with G Skill 5 5 5 15 1066 memory and everything worked without a hitch I currently have it overclocked to 3 6ghz with smaill bios tweeks I haven t tried any higher but I ll probably get this board up to 4ghz from what i ve read so far
Both the P5Q Deluxe and EP45 UD3P are great boards I would buy either one again They both have little quirks with the fans I use speedfan to control my fan speeds The plus with the Gigabyte is you can use a 3 pin CPU fan and still control the fan speed since it supports the ability to control the voltage in the Bios The P5Q doesn t support this so i needed a 4 pin CPU fan A plus for the Gigabyte
The P5Q has more fan headers and they work with speedfan The Gigabyte only has 2 usable headers excluding the cpu fan and only 1 can be controlled by speedfan I had to remove my top fan and use a Antec fan with a 3 speed switch A plus for the Asus

When a fan moves air you can expect a certain amount of noise from the displacement Sure you can hear them blow but not grinding or whining The fan mechanism itself was silent when I tested one outside of the case
I have one directly in front of a hard drive bay blasting air from the front of the case directly across 3 hard drives It is so close it s almost touching the drives very close to them The way my case is built the hard drive tray holds 3 drives together in a metal square and this fan is mounted at the front of the square facing forward I also have fans at the back pushing air outward After all that description let me tell you that I can shut off the machine and pull a hard drive without it being hot Before installing these fans my drives were VERY hot

When installing I had to add software unlike my USB tuner which worked immediately Installing the remote software is tricky as described elsewhere and it was all for nothing because the remote barely works I would say it responds to commands about 25 of the time

This graphic card comes with two plugs one for a common VGA and the other for DVI connection On a whim I attached one monitor to the VGA connector and used a DVI to VGA adapter for the other monitor Much to my amazement both monitors worked together to double my desktop I could forget about the dead VGA port on the Acer motherboard
I would have awarded five stars if this two monitor capability had been mentioned in the Sapphire card s documentation >> videocard that worked for me this videocard was purchased for dual monitor display so I can watch netflix on a 42in hdtv the videocard does not have fan for cooling but I noticed no heat build up so no fan meant no noise I did have some problems with setup disc but went to ATI web site and downloaded it with no problems this is not a videocard for gaming but I didnt get it for that purpose this videocard is real easy to install and easy to setup with good instructions that you get online from ATI I will recommend this videocard to buy to anybody who wants to setup dual display
