The aluminum case enclosing a WD Green 40 less power Caviar Hard Disk Drive WD15EARS is warm to the touch not hot suggesting that the disk is running cool A normal hard disk would run hotter Placing the hard disk in the case is easy but care must be given in plugging in the wiring inside Connecting the drive to a USB port is easy and Windows XP and higher recognizes the drive in less than a minute
The case runs cooler when setup vertically on its included pedestal compared to horizontally
Backup Use Since the case has a power switch the disk can normally be turned off and not affect computer operation When I want a backup I can flip the case switch on and the disk will be recognized in less than a minute Files to be copied can be identified When through with the copying/backup you would want to click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and click on your disk s name and wait for confirmation Then you can switch off the power to the case If disk cannot be stopped wait until you turn off the computer

I have some experience with hard drive enclosures Previously purchasing an Eagle Tech IDE enclosure I will say that this Acomdata enclosure feels higher quality and fits together more precisely than that Eagle Tech enclosure This despite the fact that the Acomdata drive didnt cost more money
The tray of the Acomdata drive is aluminum which will dissipate heat the connector in the unit feels solid enough to last the access times and transfer times seem good the unit looks good and is good quality
I am 100 satisfied with this purchase and will look to Acomdata in the future for similar product purchases
