Good power supply lots of connectors very large fan with high air flow Good for building high end systems that requires lots of power Lots of ties included for securing cables Will now wait to see how well it performs and stand up over time So far all is well

the 850 is the high end on corsair s line 650/750/850 Unfortunately due to a delay by ups amazon prime we were not able to run it on our Agilent DC loadbank to verify the 850 rating but it will be done during system assembly just later on during burnin We ll give voltage drops on each power rail at rated current as well as maximum summed power output
So far it appears Corsair wants you to have a good feel on this product It comes wrapped in a velvet bag Practical features are definitely there fan speed monitoring pinouts are provided for the MB Cable length is ample and each cable is wrapped with normal standards Each of the 4xSLIs has the 2nd aux optional connector for future use tied to the SLI cord Once again the cordlength is ample to make a 4xSLI system however power output is questionable for that configuration Many SLI cards are rated for 40A each which would be 160A 12V that s more than the power cord rating going in from the AC mains can handle
A dual SLI system is more likely some of those need 2x SLI connectors on each card so the 4x cordset will not be wasted In fact the 850 watt rating is ideal for a dual SLI system
There are multiple strings of connectors both 4 pin and L shaped SATA power connectors This is definitely ideal for disk arrays One favorable feature is that they put a healthy 6 inches between connectors rather than the <2 spacing used by OEMs when the drives are meant to be stacked The tradeoff of neatness versus flexibility is cleaned up by housing the wires inside a plastic wire loom
If our final test shows that this supply gives 850 watts at this price then its definitely a great bargain Watch for updates since 850 watts is alot of power in such a small case
The only potential negative is that cables are not the new male female design with jacks on the power supply instead of attached cordsets This turns into an electrical advantage since the attached cordsets have a lower voltage drop by a small amount while the neatness goes to the connectorized power supply The issue is that running 40A to an SLI card through not one but two connectors is going to double the connector drop on the 12V line I prefer function over neatness so to me this is the right way
